Welcome to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center. The Communications Center’s main mission is to serve the citizens of Marion County in emergency and non-emergency situations. The Sheriff’s Communications Center is staffed by a total of 58 employees and is in operation 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
The Communications Center is responsible for handling all emergency and non-emergency calls for Law Enforcement, Fire and Medical services. Our Communications Center contains not only the Law Enforcement dispatch center but also the County and City Fire Services dispatch along with the Emergency Medical Services dispatch personnel.
In 2008 the Sheriff’s Communications Center received 133,349 911 calls and dispatched Deputies to 393,104 calls for service through out Marion County. The Sheriff’s Communication Center is staffed with up to 12 personnel each day working 12 hours shifts. This staff consists of Dispatchers, 911 Operators, Teletype Operator and a Sergeant.
The Sheriff’s Communications Center also has a team of highly trained personnel consisting of Dispatchers and 911 Operators that is called the Communications Strike Team. The main function of this team is to assist with special assignments and Natural Disasters. The Communications Strike Team was dispatched along with the Sheriff’s Mobile Command and Dispatch Center to assist agencies in Florida and Mississippi during the Hurricane season of 2004.
