Welcome the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive/Warrants Unit web page.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive/Warrants Unit consists of six full time employees, 18 volunteers and is supervised by Captain Cheryl Wilson.

Captain Wilson began her career with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 1990 as a Corrections Assistant.  In 1991 she attended the Corrections Academy at Central Florida Community College becoming a certified Corrections Officer.  In 1992 she attended Police Standards Cross-over School and transferred to the Community Policing Bureau as a deputy.

She spent several years on the road, during which she worked as a deputy, Street Crimes investigator and on various undercover assignments.  She worked her way through the ranks to become the first female District Commander with the Sheriff’s Office.

During her tenure as a District Commander, she had the opportunity to serve in three different districts:  Southwest, South River and Silver Springs.  In May of 2006, she was promoted to the rank of Captain and was transferred to the Training Division as its Commander.

In May of 2006, Captain Wilson graduated from the Criminal Justice Administration Command Officer Management School at St Leo University.  She holds an AA degree in Criminal Justice from Central Florida Community College and is currently a student at St Leo University.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has taken a unique approach to staffing the Fugitive unit by utilizing highly motivated and trained volunteers. They spend many hours researching information on active warrants via the internet and computer warrants programs. Once they have compiled all the research, the researched information and warrant is forwarded to the appropriate district office for assignment to a Deputy to serve. The valuable service provided by these volunteers saves the Deputy in the field time by having all available leads on the warrant already researched.

The Warrants Unit is responsible for the entry and removal of all warrants issued by the Judiciary of Marion County.  New warrants are delivered from the Clerk of the Court approximately three times a day. Once a warrant is received it is entered into the computer. When a warrant has been served it is the responsibility of the Warrants Unit to ensure that the warrant is removed from the computer. The unit is also responsible for the “confirmation” of Marion County warrants from any other law enforcement agency that may be in contact with a person who is wanted by our agency. The number of active warrants in Marion County is constantly changing, with new warrants being received and current ones being served daily.

Crime Stoppers places a weekly ad in the Ocala Star Banner highlighting six wanted persons in Marion County. Also the public can access active Marion County warrants through our website, www.marionso.com. Click on the public information link, and then click on Warrant Search.

If you know the location of a person with an active warrant please contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, or Crime Stoppers. You may be eligible for a reward.

The Fugitive/Warrants Unit is committed to the service of active warrants and protecting the citizens of Marion County.
