Welcome to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Training Division.  This is a high liability division charged with the training of all Law Enforcement, Corrections, Communications and civilian positions with the agency.  In addition to providing entry level training for all new employees, the division maintains their certifications and is responsible for all mandatory re-training of sworn personnel.

Our goal is to provide our agency with the best training available.  To accomplish this goal, the Training Division staff consists of a Captain (Commander), three Sergeants (one from Patrol, one from Corrections and one from Communications), an administrative secretary and an administrative clerk.  Each Sergeant manages a strict training program for the new employees in their respective discipline.  A highly qualified set of field training officers are certified to provide on-the-job training for the new employees of all three disciplines.  The division utilizes numerous in-house instructors that are state certified to teach Firearms, Driving Skills and Defensive Tactics.

Not only does the Training Division provide mandatory training requirements as set forth by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, but also those required by our agency.  One such requirement is for all ranking supervisors, Sergeants and above, to complete an accredited Administrative Command School.  To date, every supervisor within Patrol, Corrections, Civil and Communications has attended a command school from either Southern Police Institute with the University of Louisville, Administrative Officers Management Program with North Carolina State, Command School with St Leo University or the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  No other agency can make this declaration.  The Training Division is responsible for the employee’s registration for these programs and acts as a liaison with the various schools.

The Sheriff’s Office also encourages its employees to continue their academic education.  The Training Division coordinates with St Leo University to bring their instructors to the agency’s facility for employees to pursue a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  The division maintains a computer lab so employees can take on-line college courses or work on college assignments, including Command School or the Master’s program.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office provides energetic motivational and educational seminars for its employees on a variety of topics.  The presenters are nationally and internationally known in their fields and give fresh ideas and information to the groups.  The Training Division seeks out the best presenters and arranges for them to come to Marion County.

As you can see, we stay very busy; we are always looking for the latest in training technology and skills in order to bring the very best to our agency members.  Thank you for taking the time to visit our web-site and learn about our division and its staff.

Sincerely,
Captain Cheryl Wilson
Training Division Commander
