MEET THE CHIEFS
Chief Terry Bovaird
Chief Terry Bovaird graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy at Central Florida Community College in 1983. He graduated from the Southern Police Institute Administrative Officer Course at University of Louisville in 1999 and continued his studies at Liberty University and Colorado Technical Institute. He served in the United States Army from 1979-1982 as a Hawk Air Defense Missile System Operator. He has worked for Citrus County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Dispatcher, Belleview Police Department as a Patrol Deputy and Marion County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Officer, Drug Task Force Agent, Patrol Sergeant, Property Crimes Sergeant, Robbery Unit Commander, Patrol District Commander, Major Crimes Unit Commander and Commander of the Marion County Sheriff’s Officer Intelligence Unit , the Counter Terrorist Unit, Fusion Center, Crime Analysis and Planning and Research Unit. He served as Director of the Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Team and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Unit (HIDTA) . He served as Director over Emergency Management, Bureau Chief of the Corrections Bureau and Bureau Chief Homeland Security & Professional Standards. He is currently the Interim Chief of Staff at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Gregg Jerald
Chief Gregg Jerald is the General Counsel and also serves as the agency’s Chief of Staff. He also serves as Bureau Chief of the Bureau of Administrative Services, which currently consists of the following divisions: Public Information/Social Media; Legal; Records and STAR; Civil and Transportation; Forensics, Evidence, and DNA Labs; Accreditation; Research and Planning; Emergency Management; Inmate Services and Ocala Community Care (Jail Medical); Training; and Volunteer Services and Community Outreach (see agency Organizational Chart).
