Hello, I am Captain Jim Burton, Commander of the Sheriff's Southwest District. My staff of 10 Deputies, Traffic Deputy Arthur Oubre, Detective Ed Mobley, Secretary Glenda Houck and my Assistant District Commander, Sgt. Grady E. Grimes are at your service. We strive to provide the best law enforcement services available to preserve the quality of life we enjoy here in Marion County.
The Southwest District encompasses 108 square miles and has the largest population of any other District. The District has rural areas, residential areas, a large commerical area and several gated communities which has a large population of retired persons from all over the country.
My District is blessed with hundreds of volunteers that work closely with my staff in various capacities to include: Citizens Patrol, Crime Watch, and Citizens Emergency Response Team to name a few. These groups are invaluable to us and help foster a close relationship with my officers and our community. We subscribe to the community policing philosophy meaning we try to deal with various issues at the community level before they rise to become police issues.
Our station is located at 9048 SW SR 200, and is staffed Monday through Friday 8:00am till 5:00pm. Our phone number is 402-6060. Please stop by and visit, if you have a complaint or suggestion or are interested in becoming one of our volunteers.
