SHERIFF HONORS CITIZENS FOR ASSISTING IN ARREST

Ocala - Three Marion County citizens were honored for their outstanding citizenship after reporting a burglary in progress and assisting in three arrests. On 03-23-08, Latonya Simmons reported three juveniles had unlawfully entered a vacant house across the street from her residence. She described the juveniles in great detail to a 911 operator, helping Air 1 and deputies locate them in just minutes. Eye witnesses were able to follow the juvenile suspects and identify them before an arrest was made.

On 04-14-08, Sheriff Dean presented eye witnesses, Latonya Simmons and Alta Boone, with an “Eagle Eye”, an honorary medal for a job well done. Ms. Simmons’ son, Dacaris Burges, will also be receiving an “Eagle Eye” on a later date.

Sheriff Dean and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank these citizens for their quick response, neighborly concern for their community and their commitment to outstanding citizenship.
