MCSO HOSTS HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Forest High School ROTC students will visit the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, June 9, to receive training from the SWAT, K-9, Aviation, Negotiations and Bomb Units. For the first portion of the day, approximately 100 students will participate in gang and drug/alcohol awareness seminars. After lunch, students will be separated into smaller groups to experience M16 training, a K-9 demo and have an opportunity to run the SWAT obstacle course.

During the training, students will get hands-on experience in confidence building drills, such as rappelling off the 80-foot tower in the obstacle course. As leaders in law enforcement, MCSO specialty unit members hope to foster an appreciation and develop a desire in the students to be a part of the community service field. At the end of the day, students will test their skills by competing against seasoned SWAT team members.

Media is welcome to attend this event.
