March 12, 2013 _ Shawn Michael Garza, 38, of Ocala is facing 13 charges including grand theft of items totalling more than $100,000. Garza was charged when detectives discovered Garza stole jewelry and other items from a home along SW 4th Avenue in Ocala. Garza admitted to the crime and said "two weeks prior to the burglary he stole the jewelry while doing some work for the victims." Garza pawned the jewelry.
The victims alerted detectives to Garza as a possible suspect because Garza had recently installed a security system with video cameras in the victims' home. It was soon discovered that Garza stole the recording system for the cameras during the burglary. Garza is in the Marion County Jail with a bond set at $47,000.
