Medal of Valor is the highest Agency award that can be presented to an individual employed with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. It is presented only in exceptional cases where an employee risks his/her life in the performance of duty.

Medal of
Distinction


This award is presented for service entailing exceptional courage or bravery in:

a) Saving a life.

b) Preventing a serious crime.

c) Apprehending a person who has committed a serious crime.


Purple Heart

This award is presented posthumously to an employee who is killed, in the line of duty, by the actions of another person. It may also be presented to an employee who is seriously injured, in the line of duty, by the actions of another person.

Medal of
Commendation


It is presented to an individual in recognition for unusual thoroughness, conscientiousness, determination and initiative while carrying out the duties and responsibilities of his/her position.

Requires effort and diligence beyond that normally required for the efficient accomplishment of an assignment.


Eagle Eye
Award


The basis of presentation is immediate recognition for observance and vigilance in the performance of duty.


Unit Citation

The Unit Citation Award recognizes an existing group or one established or formed for a specific mission or purpose that, because of the teamwork involved, have produced exceptional results beyond the scope of their assigned duties
