WHAT IS THE MARION COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DOING FOR YOU?
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has taken an aggressive approach in the monitoring of sexual predators and sexual offenders.
SEXUAL PREDATORS
Once per month, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office contacts each sexual predator at his/her residence. The contact is logged into a computerized sexual predator/offender tracking program. Neighborhood notifications are distributed on a semi-annual basis or sooner, to ensure our citizens proper awareness of these persons in their neighborhoods; to concur with Florida law pertaining to sexual predator notifications.
SEXUAL OFFENDERS
Once per month, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office contacts each sexual offender at his/her residence. The contact is logged into a computerized sexual predator/offender tracking program.
While not mandatory, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will distribute neighborhood notifications of these offenders to immediate neighbors, schools and daycare. Especially those offenders convicted with crimes against young children; repeat offenders, violent histories and those deemed to be a future threat, etc.
WHAT CAN YOU AS A CITIZEN DO?
1) Educate your loved ones.
2) Know the faces and locations of predators/offenders in your neighborhood. If you see suspicious activity, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 732-9111.
3) Don't live in fear! Being informed and aware should help you achieve a more safety conscious attitude about all potential crime!
