COMMUNITY SERVICE SPECIALIST UNIT
The Community Service Specialist (CSS) Unit plays an important role in supporting patrol operations across Marion County. As non-sworn members, they respond to a variety of non-emergency calls for service, helping reduce the workload on deputies while ensuring the community continues to receive timely assistance.
CSS members handle calls such as minor property crimes without suspects, fraud cases, lost or found property, abandoned vehicles, and ensuring parking compliance. They also assist with traffic direction, investigate traffic crashes, conduct VIN verifications, and support school crossing duties. Their work allows sworn deputies to focus on more urgent and high-risk situations.
On any given day, a Community Service Specialist may be interviewing witnesses, completing reports, assisting motorists, or managing traffic during accidents or events. Their ability to stay adaptable, communicate effectively, and respond to calls makes them a valuable part of MCSO’s service to the community.
